Freixnet and beyond

This morning we all arose very early, hung over, jet lagged and sleep deprived. Nothing was going to keep us from the Freixnet tasting Elio set us up with. We met in the lobby at 7:30am…yes you read that right. We then got on a local train (underground) to take us to the town where Freixnet is made and the caves. It was the most interesting tour. Not like most. We saw and learned things that I thought we “knew it all” Freixnet has the largest vats for fermentation in the world. We took a “go cart train” through the old part of the winery to the new part of the winery. There is something else, but my mind escapes me now, as it was a full day and I am trying to put all to paper before I forget.

We took the underground back to Barcelona, btw, it was a 45 minute train ride, and got off at the wrong stop. Blind luck, cause we were now hungry for lunch. Asked the information booth where to eat. Endend up at a local restaurant where the daily special was three courses for 9 euro. What a bargain. But it included the most god awful wine with it.

After lunch, we got on the hop on hop off bus which gave all of us a perspective of Barcelona. Elio enjoyed it so much he and Donna fell asleep.

We went back to our local grocery, half a block away to stock up on ….ummmm let me guess, MORE WINE!!!!!

I am back in the room, Rufus is sleeping of course. We have our dinner tonight with the Bailli of Barcelona at one of his favorite restaurants. I am looking forward to sharing this meal with our “brotherhood” of Chaine members in Barcelona.

To be continued.
