Venice, Italy
Venice, Italy
We disembarked our ship at around 2:30 for the watertaxi ride in the Venice canals to St. Mark’s Square. Much like Jackson Square in the fact they have many shops and live musicians except they wear tuxedos to perform. We are here for two days, or rather two half days in a row.
St. Mark’s Basilica dates back to the 11th century and contains mosaics and precious art. Built in 830.
The Grand Canal is the main waterway of Venice.
Some walked the mile or so from the ship, some took the ships shuttle and me and my colleagues who trust me, took the water taxi.
We walked and walked and shopped and shopped.
The Bailli of Venice had “warned/set up” a dinner at a quaint restaurant right off San Marco Square. Trattoria do Forni. www.doforni.it It was a fantastic dinner.
After dinner we did the tourist thing…a gondonla ride through the canals. Some went back to the ship at this point, but the die hards, we went back to St. Mark’s Square and had more wine being entertained by a 5 piece orchestra.
Back onboard tonight, I didn’t take many pictures, but I trust I can depend on Paula and Tony to have pictures to upload at some point.
Tomorrow we sail in the afternoon, will report later.
